NE Extension Farm Management Competition

NE Extension Farm Management Competition

Friday, February 24, 2017

Do you think you know how to manage a farm best? Want to put that statement to the test? The West Central Research and Extension Center (WCREC) in North Platte is giving farmers the opportunity to do just that with a field competition for managing corn under center pivot irrigation.

The competition begins in mid-March and will last until January of 2018. Participants will be making farm management decisions representing a 120 acre field. Participants will have control over six parameters, including irrigation management, nitrogen management, hybrid selection, population density, grain marketing, and insurance selection.

The Upper Republican NRD is looking for a participant to nominate for the competition. The areas evaluated are: most economically profitable, highest input use efficiency, and highest grain yield. There is a cash prize for receiving the highest score in each category and a grand prize of $1000 minimum. If you are interested and would like a more detailed description of the competition, please contact the URNRD by March 1, at 308-882-5173 or urnrd@urnrd.org.
